Many people benefit from speaking to a therapist when life is not going as expected. The reasons for seeking individual therapy varies. Some people come with a specific problem in mind to solve. Others recognize the presence of troubling symptoms in their life like anxiety, sadness, moodiness, low energy, concentration difficulties, changes in libido, sleep issues, body image concerns, changes in motivation and productivity, relationship issues, or just not feeling like yourself.
Some people benefit from using solution-focused, strength based problem solving. Others benefit from spending time working in-depth to uncover and discover better ways to live with a sense of purpose and fulfillment. Together, we’ll discover the best ways to work towards wellness. We offer a full range of services for individuals; including, EMDR, Trauma Informed Care, Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Play therapy, Solutions focused, or IFS.
In general, therapy can offer a safe place to discuss private matters. Someone an adult or teen can really trust. A professional who understands the mind and who can offer guidance on life's struggles. An opportunity to talk about problems and concerns versus holding them in.
Having therapy does not mean you or your child are crazy! At least 1 in 5 teens (20%) have mental health issues. Doctors and therapists treat mental health problems just like any medical problem. For instance, if you break your leg, you go to an orthopedic doctor. If you have an earache, you see an ear, nose, and throat specialist. If you are depressed, anxious, or need someone to talk to, you go to a therapist.
Mental health includes how you act, feel, and think in different situations. Teens have mental health problems when their actions, feelings, or thoughts regularly create obstacles in their lives. Everybody has times when they think or feel something that they don't like. Other times, people do things that other people don't like. Both of these situations are normal. But when the unwanted thoughts, feelings, or actions regularly create problems, there may be a mental health problem. Counselors, psychologists, and psychiatrists are people who help others with mental health problems.
Starz Group Counseling understands that teenagers struggle just like adults do. Parents often do their best, but can feel powerless and have nowhere to turn. A caring therapist can help you identify unwanted feelings and thoughts, work through them and reveal a path of healing and change.
Teens face a broad range of issues, including addictions, eating disorders, substance abuse, pornography, depression, loneliness, losing loved ones to suicide and more. Meadowbrook will find a therapist that can best meet your needs and circumstances. We understand that it is very important that you “identify” with your therapist and feel “connected.” We will also conduct an assessment and help you get the support you need.
